Dear  <$firstname$>,

I love new beginnings. New beginnings happen all around the world with New Year's Day.  I’ve spent the last two months of 2011 planning for new programs and services that will roll out over 2012. Your subscription to this Practical E-News will provide you with some tips and links to good articles as well as keep you informed about new services, speaking engagements, and products as they are launched. I’ll be sending it out at least once a month – no more than two times a month when things are really hopping, I promise!

For now, take a peek at an overview of what’s in store for January! And don’t forget to keep up with the blog! This year promises to be one filled with reflections about this “transition to adulthood” we’re experiencing.
I wish for you, a happy, healthy, connected 2012.

Warmly,

Joan signature

use soap to kill food allergens  Tip of the Month: Use Soap!
Earlier this year I learned a life-changing fact about food allergies.  Washing hands with hand sanitizers kills bacteria, but not food allergens. You still need hot soapy water to kill food allergens such as gluten, peanut, and milk. If your child – of any age – has celiac disease, make sure he is washing his hands with soap before eating
The Girls Guide to Growing Up by Terri Couwenhoven Resource of the Month
The Girls' Guide to Growing Up

This month I am stepping away from food and exercise resources.  The changes that come with puberty are a big part of any Wellness Walk. My friend and colleague, Terri Couwenhoven, MS has a new book: The Girls’ Guide to Growing Up: Choices & Changes in the Tween Years.  It’s one of the most practical, easy-to-read books for girls managing puberty. She uses informational, clear, photos, drawings, and easy-to-read language to teach the most personal tasks girls must master. It’s actually a good resource for anyone who is learning how to manage “girl stuff” regardless of age.   I wish I had one when I as a tween. Click here for more information.
